Are-Ekiti, Ekiti State — August 14, 2026:
An Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Ekiti State University (EKSU), Dr. Akindele David, has lost his mother, Mama Alice Aina Ogunsakin, who died at the age of 79.
Mama Ogunsakin, a native of Are-Ekiti, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2026, leaving behind six children, grandchildren and other members of her extended family.
Speaking with Mature Minds Digital Radio & TV, Dr. Akindele, who is the first son of the deceased, described his late mother as a kind-hearted, caring and generous woman who was deeply committed to the wellbeing of everyone around her.
According to him, Mama Ogunsakin was a woman who loved people and consistently sought to make those around her happy.
“She was a very nice woman, caring and generous. She always wanted to satisfy everyone around her because she loved everyone, even up to her death,” he said.
Dr. Akindele also described his mother as a committed Christian who was deeply religious and known for praying for her family and other people around her.
Born and raised in Are-Ekiti, Mama Ogunsakin was the daughter of the Ehinafe family. She was also a sister to the late Mr. Joseph Ehinafe, popularly known as “Love All,” who was the father of Hon. Ehinafe Odunayo Bola.
Recalling his childhood and educational journey, Dr. Akindele said he grew up with his mother in Are-Ekiti before leaving the town in 1983 to attend Christ’s School, Ado-Ekiti. He subsequently attended Ondo State University and later travelled to the United Kingdom, where he obtained his PhD.
Despite the different stages of his academic and professional journey, Dr. Akindele said the bond he shared with his mother remained strong.
Reflecting on the family’s reaction to her passing, he said the news initially brought tears, but the family later found comfort in celebrating the life she lived.
He described the occasion as a celebration of a life well spent, rather than simply a period of mourning.
“We are not mourning because she was 79 years. She had many of her mates who had gone long ago,” he said.
According to him, the family eventually moved from grief to thanksgiving, reflecting on the years Mama Ogunsakin spent on earth and the positive impact she had on her children, family and community.
“At the announcement of Mama’s death, we shed tears and later rejoiced because of the life well spent,” he concluded.
Mama Alice Aina Ogunsakin is remembered by her family as a woman of love, generosity, faith and compassion, whose legacy will continue through the lives of her children and those she touched.
Mature Minds Digital Radio & TV extends its condolences to the Ogunsakin and Ehinafe families and prays for strength and comfort for the bereaved.
May her soul rest in perfect peace.
