Ahead of the 2027 National Assembly elections, supporters of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ekiti North Senatorial District have declared that the people of the zone will reject vote-buying and intimidation.
The declaration is coming on the heels of alleged attempts by political opponents to use money to sway voters in the district.
In a statement making rounds across the five local government areas of Ekiti North – Ikole, Moba, Ido/Osi, Oye and Ilejemeje – residents insisted that conscience-buying politics has failed and will fail again.
According to the supporters, the people are resolute in their demand for responsive and responsible representation.
“Sen AYAM DG think he can buy people’s conscience, ofo lo ba de. You are rejected with your money bags. Ekiti North people are resolute, we won’t tolerate intimidation,” the statement read.
The supporters said the era of imposing candidates with money is over, noting that Ekiti North voters are more enlightened and determined to vote based on character, capacity and track record.
They called on electorates across the senatorial district to queue behind the candidacy of Otunba Dr. Olugbega Peter Obafemi, also known as OPO, the Senatorial Candidate of the SDP.
Describing Obafemi as a man of integrity and compassion, the supporters said he represents a credible alternative with a clear blueprint for youth employment, agriculture, education, health and rural development.
“Vote for a responsive and responsible representation. Vote Otunba Dr Peter Obafemi for Senate. Vote SDP,” they added.
Reacting to the development, sources close to the Obafemi Campaign Organisation said the SDP candidate remains focused on an issue-based campaign and will not be distracted by money politics.
Otunba Obafemi, they said, believes in convincing the people with ideas and programmes, not with cash, and is confident that the people of Ekiti North will choose service over inducement when the time comes.
