The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the alleged activities of the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) has declared the appointment letter presented by Mr. Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to be the Director-General of the council, as fake.
The committee’s chairman, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, made the disclosure on Wednesday during the continuation of the investigative hearing in Abuja. He revealed that findings from the ongoing probe showed that the appointment letter and other official documents presented by Adeyemi lacked authenticity.
According to Hon. Gagdi, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who appeared before the committee for the second time, confirmed that the documents submitted by Adeyemi were not genuine.
He stated that investigations conducted by relevant government agencies established that the purported appointment letter was forged. He further disclosed that the Act allegedly establishing the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, which was presented to the Office of the Head of Service, was equally fake.
“It was established that the so-called letter of appointment was fake, confirmed by different agencies, and the Act presented to the Head of Service was equally fake and forged by the individual claiming to be the Director-General,” Gagdi said.
Mrs. Walson-Jack appeared before the committee in compliance with its summons to provide final clarifications on the matter. Also present at the hearing were Deputy Commissioner of Police Olufemi Akinola and Assistant Commissioner of Police Bashir Abdullahi, who represented the Inspector-General of Police.
As of the time the hearing was ongoing, Mr. Adeniyi Adeyemi had not appeared before the committee despite earlier directives.
The committee had earlier, during Monday’s sitting, described the creation and operation of the purported PFIPC as a serious violation of due process and directed the Inspector-General of Police to produce Adeyemi within 48 hours to answer questions regarding the council’s activities and the authenticity of the documents in his possession.
The investigation is expected to continue as lawmakers seek to unravel the circumstances surrounding the establishment of the disputed council and determine those responsible for the alleged forgery and misrepresentation.
