The Lagos State Government has arrested a man for destroying a concrete barrier on the Ikorodu Road at Kosofe Bus Stop, Mile 12.Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the arrest in a post on X on Saturday. He said the suspect was caught during monitoring and enforcement operations carried out on Friday.
According to Wahab, the suspect was deliberately removing iron rods, steel cables, reinforcements and other parts that make the barrier strong and effective. The barrier was installed to stop pedestrians from crossing the expressway at dangerous points.“The suspect has been arrested and will be prosecuted in line with the law,” Wahab stated.
“This action shows the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and ensuring the safety of road users and residents.”The arrest is part of the state’s ongoing clampdown on vandalism of public assets.Wahab warned that anyone caught damaging government property will face prosecution.
The incident comes amid growing concerns over the theft of metal components from public structures across Lagos, which officials say endangers lives and wastes government funds.
