A female motorist lost her life on Sunday after her Toyota Sienna crashed into a roadside building at Mongoro, inward Ile-Zik, along one of Lagos’ busiest highways. The incident was confirmed by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority in a statement signed by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq.According to LASTMA, initial findings showed the driver, who was alone in the vehicle with registration number LND 162 HB, lost control before veering off the road and slamming into a building.“The deceased was driving a Toyota Sienna (LND 162 HB) when she lost control.
The vehicle veered off the road and crashed violently into a roadside building. The impact was fatal, and she died on the spot. She was the only occupant of the vehicle,” the statement said.LASTMA officers who were on routine patrol in the area said they quickly cordoned off the scene and managed traffic to avoid gridlock and further accidents.Although traffic was briefly disrupted, the agency said its personnel restored normal flow within a short time. Officers from the Afonka Police Post, Shasha Division, were also on ground to provide security during the evacuation.Reacting, LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the crash as “a painful reminder of the dangers of excessive speed and reckless driving.
”“Every trip must be made with care, patience and strict adherence to traffic laws. No destination is worth losing a life over. Speeding remains a leading cause of fatal crashes, and drivers must be responsible at all times,” he said.Bakare-Oki also advised motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good condition before hitting the road, and to avoid driving cars with mechanical faults until they are properly fixed. He commiserated with the family of the deceased and prayed they find strength to bear the loss.
