BREAKING: INEC Releases Presidential Candidates’ Credentials for Public Scrutiny

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the public display of the personal particulars and academic credentials of presidential candidates participating in the 2027 general election, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The publication, which began on Saturday, August 1, 2026, includes the nomination documents of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside those of other presidential candidates and their respective running mates.

According to INEC, the exercise is a statutory requirement aimed at promoting transparency in the electoral process. It provides members of the public with the opportunity to inspect the submitted credentials and other relevant documents and, where necessary, challenge any nomination through the legal procedures stipulated by the Electoral Act.

Electoral stakeholders have described the public display of candidates’ particulars as a vital component of Nigeria’s democratic process, reinforcing accountability and public confidence in the conduct of elections.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a transparent, credible, free, and fair election, while urging Nigerians to rely on verified information and follow due legal process regarding any concerns over candidates’ qualifications.
