Voters in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State have alleged that suspected supporters of the All Progressives Congress, APC, were distributing money during Saturday’s governorship election. The incident was captured in a video from Ward 4, Unit 7, where voters were seen confronting individuals accused of sharing cash at the polling unit.According to voters, the incident occurred around 9:30 a.m.
A similar allegation was made at Ward 4, Unit 13 at about 10:30 a.m.One voter said those accused fled the scene with some of the cash packed in a polythene bag. _“We don’t know how much was there. They ran away and used a polythene bag to take the money away,”_ the voter said in the video. The voter added that the act violated rules banning vote buying at polling units.
“The rule given to us was that we should not give money to anyone. We did not cause any trouble; we were only running after them,”_ he said. Some voters also displayed cash they said they recovered, along with a card they identified as belonging to the APC._“This is the evidence.
The card they used belongs to the APC, and their logo is on it,”_ another voter said. The affected polling units are said to be linked to Najeem Salaam, popularly known as Iwaloye, the African Democratic Congress, ADC, governorship candidate.
However, voters alleged that those caught sharing the money were APC members._“We are talking about Iwaloye, the ADC candidate. At his unit, APC members are sharing money. It happened at about 9:30 a.m. in Unit 7 and 10:30 a.m. in Unit 13,”_ one voter alleged.
The allegations could not be independently verified as of press time, and the APC had not responded to the claims.
