Abba Aliyu Tilde, Senior Legislative Aide to Senator Shehu Buba Umar, has resigned his appointment, citing a breakdown of trust in their working relationship.
In a resignation letter dated September 6, 2026 and addressed directly to the senator, Tilde described his decision as “one of the most difficult” of his career.
“Throughout my working time with you, I have ever worked to contribute meaningfully and to support your work to the best of my ability,” Tilde wrote. He thanked the senator for the opportunity to serve and said he approached the job with loyalty, commitment, and respect.
However, Tilde referenced “a particularly disquieting incident” which he said he could not, in good conscience, ignore. While he did not give details in the letter, he stated that the incident raised concerns about transparency and communication in the office.
“I have always believed that any working relationship, particularly one involving political and public service, must be built on mutual respect, communication, trust, and recognition of one another’s roles,” he wrote. “I no longer feel those principles are being upheld.”
“I therefore believe that resigning is the most honourable decision for me at this point. I leave the position with a clear conscience, knowing that I have given my best,” he added.
RESIGNATION AMID MULTIPLE CONTROVERSIES
Tilde’s exit comes at a turbulent time for Senator Buba, who has faced mounting scrutiny over persistent allegations linking him to banditry — allegations he has repeatedly denied.
In recent weeks, the senator has been at the center of a viral interview where a man identified as Hassan claimed to have filmed bandits collecting weapons at Buba’s residence. Another video alleging that bandit “kingpins” visited his home was later debunked by a PRNigeria fact-check, which found it to be a splice of unrelated footage.
The Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria, which had earlier defended the senator, also reversed its position this week and called for an independent investigation into the renewed allegations.
POLITICAL FALLOUT FROM DEFECTION
The resignation further follows Senator Buba’s defection from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP. He is now seeking the Bauchi State governorship ticket on the PRP platform in 2027 — a move that has already prompted APC-aligned groups to push for his Senate seat to be declared vacant.
Given the timing, Tilde’s departure and his reference to a “disquieting incident” are likely to fuel further speculation about internal dynamics in the senator’s office, though the resignation letter made no direct link to the banditry allegations.
As of press time, Senator Buba’s office had not issued a public response to the resignation. 247ureports could not independently verify the details of the incident cited by Tilde. It is also unclear whether Tilde will make further public comments on his tenure or reasons for leaving.
