The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, has confirmed that three separate road accidents occurred in different parts of Lagos in the early hours of Saturday, leaving three people injured and no fatalities recorded.
In a statement by the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Afolabi Olawale, the crashes happened at Olupese Bus Stop inward Oshodi, Aswani Bus Stop inward Iyana-Isolo, and Oba Ogunji Road, Ikeja.
According to LASEMA, emergency teams responded quickly, rescued victims, towed the damaged vehicles, and restored traffic flow.
How it happened:
1. Olupese Bus Stop – 12:07 a.m.
A granite-laden truck suffered a breakdown after its rear tyre got stuck in a pothole at Olupese Bus Stop, blocking traffic toward Oshodi.
Investigations showed the bad road condition caused the fault. No one was injured.
LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team diverted traffic and used its heavy-duty truck, _Super Metro_, to evacuate the truck and clear the road.
2. Aswani Bus Stop – 12:59 a.m.
A Toyota Sienna with plate number ABJ-515DQ had a head-on collision with an oncoming truck. The impact pushed the truck onto a culvert.
Three passengers in the Sienna — two women and one man — sustained injuries. They were treated at the scene and taken to hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS.
The truck was later pulled out with _Super Metro_ and handed over to LASTMA, while the Sienna was released to police officers at Aswani Station.
3. Oba Ogunji Road, Ikeja – 1:19 a.m.
A concrete mixer truck belonging to the Ministry of Environment collided with a green Volkswagen bus, FKJ 424KA.
Preliminary findings blamed overspeeding by the VW bus. No injuries or deaths were recorded.
Responders carried out repairs on the mixer and cleared both vehicles to reopen the road.
Reacting to the incidents, LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, praised the teamwork of all emergency agencies and called on drivers to obey traffic rules.
“The Sanwo-Olu administration has zero tolerance for loss of life on Lagos roads,” he said.
“The collaboration between LASEMA, LASAMBUS, LASTMA, the police and other stakeholders helped reduce the impact of these crashes.
We will keep investing in equipment, training and fast response to protect Lagosians.”
He also urged motorists to avoid speeding and report bad roads promptly, noting that responsible driving is key to preventing avoidable accidents.
