OSOGBO, Osun State — Governor Ademola Adeleke has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that the forthcoming Osun State governorship election is conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner, warning against any attempt to manipulate the electoral process.
Speaking during his re-election campaign in Osogbo on Monday, the governor expressed confidence that he would secure victory if the election reflects the genuine will of the people. He urged the President to protect Nigeria’s democratic values by guaranteeing a transparent electoral process and preventing a repeat of past electoral crises.
Governor Adeleke also called on President Tinubu to caution the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and former Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, over what he alleged to be interference in the state’s political affairs. He maintained that the people of Osun should be allowed to determine their next governor through the ballot without intimidation or undue influence.
The governor further declared that, as the Chief Security Officer of Osun State, he would continue to work with relevant authorities to preserve peace and safeguard lives and property before, during, and after the election. He stressed that while the state remains peaceful, no individual or group should undermine the democratic rights of Osun residents.
Adeleke stated that the people of Osun have demonstrated confidence in his administration and expressed optimism about his re-election. He also said the people have shown support for President Tinubu’s future political aspirations, adding that such goodwill should be reciprocated with a commitment to a transparent and credible governorship election.
His remarks come amid heightened political activities ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with concerns over security, electoral integrity, and the neutrality of institutions dominating public discourse. Political stakeholders have continued to call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure a peaceful, transparent, and violence-free poll.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Presidency nor the office of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola had issued an official response to the governor’s latest remarks.
