Mature Minds Digital Radio TV has documented the remarkable history and enduring significance of Amun Water, a natural water source in Amun Quarters, Odo-Ado, Ado-Ekiti, following a visit to one of the community’s oldest residents and custodians of its history.
The media organisation paid a documentary visit on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, to Alhaji Dauda Agbetola Aremu, Chief Imam of Sirajudeen Mosque, Opopogbooro, Ado-Ekiti, at his residence in Amun Quarters.
Speaking during the documentary, Alhaji Agbetola described Amun Water as a blessing, noting that its original source or root remains untraceable.

According to him, the perceived spiritual significance of the water has continued to attract people from different places, with some visitors coming to the location to offer prayers and engage in spiritual activities.

He disclosed that people also travel from various communities to fetch the water, sometimes remaining at the location until 12 midnight.
69 Years at the Heart of Amun Quarters
Recounting the history of the community, Alhaji Agbetola revealed that he was the first person to arrive and settle in the area in 1957, meaning he has spent approximately 69 years living there.
He explained that he subsequently named the settlement Amun Quarters, a name that has endured as the identity of the community.
He further stated that people have continued to drink from the water without, in his account, experiencing illness associated with its consumption.
Government Intervention Abandoned Halfway
Alhaji Agbetola also recalled an earlier government intervention aimed at modernising the Amun Water area.
He said government officials once commenced work on the site, with Barrister Sola Elesin, the current APC Chairman in Ekiti State, among those involved in the intervention, according to his account.
However, he said the modernisation project was eventually halted halfway, leaving the development of the site incomplete.
Call for Renewed Government Attention
The Chief Imam appealed to the government to revisit the project and complete the development of Amun Water.
He argued that a renewed intervention would serve the people who depend on and visit the site while also giving the government an opportunity to establish a tangible and enduring legacy.
“A Significant Feature of Ado-Ekiti”
Alhaji Agbetola concluded that Amun Water could be regarded as one of the significant features of Ado-Ekiti, stressing that the water originated in Ado-Ekiti and has remained connected to the history and identity of the community.
His account presents Amun Water as more than a natural water source—it is intertwined with community history, spirituality, tradition and public interest.
The documentary by Mature Minds Digital Radio TV seeks to bring greater attention to the history and significance of the site while encouraging conversations around its preservation, responsible development and potential value to the people of Ado-Ekiti.
