Family Appeals to Government, Human Rights Organisations and Good-spirited Nigerians Over ₦5 Million Autopsy Bill. The immediate and extended family of Sunday Ogunsakin, popularly known as Jaruu in Afao Ekiti, have made a passionate appeal to the Federal and State Governments, human rights organisations, philanthropists, public-spirited Nigerians and relevant authorities to come to their aid in their determined effort to obtain justice for their son, whose life was allegedly cut short following an incident involving Mr. Rotimi Olabiwonnu, popularly known as Mentilo, and his son, Doyin.According to the family, Sunday Ogunsakin was allegedly abducted, subjected to severe beating and subsequently killed.
The family is now seeking justice through the appropriate legal channels and is determined to ensure that all necessary evidence required by the court is preserved and properly presented. However, the family says the situation is becoming increasingly difficult following a demand by the hospital where the deceased’s remains have reportedly been deposited for autopsy for the sum of ₦5 million (Five Million Naira) to undertake the necessary post-mortem examination.
The family fears that its inability to raise the money could delay the autopsy and potentially create a serious obstacle in the prosecution of the case, particularly because the post-mortem findings may be required as part of the medical evidence before the court. The family therefore appeals to the government and all Nigerians of goodwill not to allow financial difficulties to frustrate the pursuit of justice for their son.
“We are appealing to the government, human rights organisations, corporate bodies, philanthropists and every good-hearted Nigerian to assist us. We have lost our son, but we do not want his death to be in vain. We need justice, and we need help to obtain the medical evidence necessary to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.
”The family is particularly appealing to the relevant government authorities, the Nigeria Police Force, the Ministry of Justice, human rights organisations and other lawful institutions to ensure that the matter receives the necessary attention and that no procedural or financial obstacle prevents the truth from being established
.The family also calls on Nigerians who may be willing to assist financially to support the payment of the autopsy bill so that the remains can undergo the required examination and the result made available to the appropriate authorities and the court. The family emphasises that its appeal is not for vengeance but for justice.
It wants the circumstances surrounding Sunday Ogunsakin’s death to be thoroughly investigated and for anyone found culpable by a competent court to face the full consequences of the law.Sunday Ogunsakin (Jaruu) deserves justice. His family deserves closure. The rule of law must be allowed to take its course.
The family therefore calls on all well-meaning Nigerians to join hands with them at this difficult moment and help ensure that financial constraints do not become an impediment to justice.Justice for Sunday Ogunsakin (Jaruu).Signed:Mr Tope Ogunsakin0816595401408032367824For: The Immediate and Extended Family of Sunday Ogunsakin (Jaruu)
