The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, His Royal Majesty Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe Aladesanmi III, has endorsed the newly launched Iru Ekun Security Network founded by Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
The monarch gave his backing on Thursday during Igboho’s visit to the Ewi’s Palace in Ado-Ekiti. The visit was part of events marking the inauguration and recognition of the Iru Ekun Security Network in Ekiti State.
Igboho told the monarch that the initiative was created to complement the work of existing security agencies in tackling banditry, kidnapping, and other threats to lives and property. He disclosed that the network now has over 120,000 members and will focus on strengthening security across the Southwest.
He added that his return to Nigeria was with the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and that he was using the opportunity to build a community-based security structure to promote peace and safety in the region.
Igboho also appreciated the Ewi and other Ekiti traditional rulers for their support, recalling that about 10 monarchs from Ekiti attended his mother’s burial — a gesture he described as a sign of love from the people of Ekiti.
Addressing journalists after the visit, Igboho clarified that Iru Ekun was not set up to rival the police, DSS, or other security agencies, but to support them.
“We need to join hands to ensure peace in Ekiti. We must support our government, our elders, and one another for peace to reign,” he said.
In his response, Oba Aladesanmi said the traditional institution supports any genuine effort to promote peace and security. He noted that development is impossible in an atmosphere of insecurity, and stressed that traditional rulers have a duty to safeguard their communities.
The Ewi urged members of Iru Ekun to stay committed to their mission, respect traditional institutions, and work hand-in-hand with recognized security agencies. He also commended President Tinubu and called for stronger collaboration between government, traditional rulers, communities, and security agencies.
At the event, the Ekiti State Coordinator of the network, Ifa Tosin, was inaugurated. Igboho was also presented with an award by Osamika in recognition of his support for Ekiti.
