A building at UNICEM Hospital in Calabar, Cross River State, has collapsed after a landslide caused by heavy rainfall and soil erosion.
A video posted on X on Friday showed the moment the structure, which had been left hanging after the ground beneath it was washed away, slowly gave way and fell into a gully below.
The incident was said to have occurred on Thursday, August 13.
As of the time of filing this report, the Cross River State Government had not issued any official statement on the collapse.
The footage has since drawn reactions online, with many users expressing concern about possible casualties and urging authorities to address erosion and infrastructure safety.
Reacting, X user #Dacolls1 wrote: _“It seems there is a real environmental crisis in Calabar. The recurring landslides need proper investigation by professionals. I think the lack of erosion control is the main cause here.”_
Another user, #okafor_nna54, said: _“Hope there are no casualties? That’s the most important thing right now. Governments are not doing what they should to save lives. This building must have shown signs and nothing was done about it.”_
Also commenting, #Northernigbo blamed poor construction: _“For things like this, the first person I’m locking up is the engineer.”_
UNICEM Hospital provides healthcare services to workers and residents in Calabar.
