Afrobeats star David Adeleke, aka Davido, has described his uncle Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election in Osun State as a major victory won against overwhelming political opposition.
Speaking to journalists at his country home on Tuesday after the August 15 governorship poll, Davido called it more than a contest — “a war.”
“Let me congratulate my governor on his re-election. It was a hard-fought battle. Let me not even call it a battle, it was a war. 17 governors, 50 senators, members of the House of Reps — I don’t even know how many — all against one man. And he came out victorious. God is good,” he said.
Davido credited the win to the people of Osun, saying their support and vigilance protected their votes. He added that he was deeply moved on election day.
“I can’t remember how many times I cried that day because the love was massive,” he said.
He said the result should be a lesson to leaders nationwide: serve the people and they will stand with you.
“My uncle should be an example to others. It shows governors that if you work for the people, the people and God will be with you,” he stated.
The singer also condemned alleged intimidation and vote-buying, and thanked Osun residents for standing firm.
Looking ahead, Davido, as Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund, announced plans to roll out youth and sports projects now that the election is over.
“I deliberately held back some initiatives until after the election,” he said.
One key project in view is a recreation center with football pitches, swimming pools, and basketball courts to help young people discover and develop their talents.
Adeleke defeated APC’s Bola Oyebamiji to secure a second term on August 15. With the election behind them, Davido says the focus now shifts to creating more opportunities for Osun youths through sports.
