Social commentator Isaac Fayose has criticised the EFCC for freezing the Osun State Government account, describing the action as selective and politically driven.Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose, made the remark in a video on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday.
How can you freeze a whole state account and put about four million people into trouble?” he asked. “Why didn’t you freeze Ekiti’s account in June? Why did you allow vote buying in Ekiti?”The EFCC had on Wednesday placed a “Post No Debit” order on Osun’s statutory allocation account at First Bank as part of an investigation.Fayose accused the commission of double standards, alleging that states loyal to the Federal Government were spared during elections while Osun was being targeted ahead of the August 15 poll.
He also warned of alleged plans to manipulate the 2027 elections and urged Nigerians to demand the resignation of the INEC chairman and EFCC leadership.Governor Ademola Adeleke had earlier called the freeze illegal and directed the Attorney General, Oluwole Jimi-Bada, to challenge it in court. Jimi-Bada said the EFCC could investigate but could not freeze accounts without a court order.
The EFCC however said it has been probing Osun since March 2026 over alleged mismanagement of about N11bn in ecology, intervention and FAAC funds. It added that suspicious movement of funds from August 2 prompted the restriction.
NBA President Afam Osigwe also warned that freezing state accounts would cripple governance and amounts to abuse of power.Osun will hold its governorship election on August 15, with Adeleke seeking re-election
