President Bola Tinubu has ordered the immediate arrest of George Buchi Nwabueze and the suspension of three permanent secretaries following the discovery of another fake agency operating within the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Dr. Musa Aliyu, SAN, disclosed this to State House correspondents on Friday after briefing the President for the second time in two days.
According to Aliyu, the newly discovered fake office operates under the name “National Brands Development and Made-in-Nigeria Special Project Office.” It was illegally allocated office space within the OSGF premises without presidential approval and in violation of existing laws.
He said the discovery was made during ICPC’s ongoing investigation into the earlier exposed fake “Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council” and other procedural weaknesses in the public service.
“The promoter of the fake agency is one Prince George Buchi Nwabueze, who also operates under other aliases including George Nathan, George Nathan Nwabueze, Hon. George Buchi Nwabueze, and George Nwabueze,” Aliyu stated. He added that the promoter had suspected collaborators within the OSGF.
Aliyu said he had briefed the President comprehensively on the findings and that the ICPC would continue its investigations.
Following the briefing, the President directed:
1. *The immediate arrest of Prince George Buchi Nwabueze*
2. *The immediate suspension of Permanent Secretaries: M.S. Danjuma, Nadungu Gagare, and Richard P. Pheelangwah*
Friday’s action is the latest fallout from a scandal that began with the exposure of the fictitious Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council. Its self-styled DG, Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, is currently being prosecuted for forgery and impersonation.
An interim ICPC report submitted to the President on August 6 had earlier revealed two other fake bodies: the FCT Investment Promotion Agency and the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency and Public-Private Partnership.
The “National Brands Development and Made-in-Nigeria Special Project Office” is now the fourth fake agency uncovered since the PFIFC scandal broke in early April.
