Waking up to this tragic incident this morning sent chills down my spine. In the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti, a man allegedly hacked his wife to death over an unresolved disagreement. Reports say they had a misunderstanding and the wife moved back to her parents’ house as a survival tactic.
Unfortunately, the husband allegedly sent someone to call her out. To everyone’s utter shock, he attacked her with a cutlass, inflicting severe injuries that led to her death.
The most heartbreaking part? This woman’s twin sister got married just last Saturday. In a matter of days, the family that should have been celebrating was left to bury their hearts in grief and pain. A beast in human form cut their joy short. This is a clarion call to everyone: carefully study who you are going to say “I do” to at the altar. That decision could be your early grave or your early salvation. Many women and men would still be enjoying life today if they had not married the wrong person.
The law will take its course, but the damage has already been done. Let me be clear: no man, absolutely no man, will terrorize or demonize my daughter with beatings in the name of marriage without facing the full consequences.
It would be far wiser for the government to make it mandatory for every intending couple to undergo mental and psychological evaluation at a recognized psychiatric hospital before marriage. This could help in building healthier, lasting unions. I have handled cases of domestic violence over the years, and they have left invisible scars on me.
Till my last breath, I will never take any case of domestic violence lightly — especially when it involves women who are not on equal physical strength in the face of beatings. May we never marry our early grave in the name of marriage. 🙏
