Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has urged all revenue-generating agencies in the state to work together in order to increase internally generated revenue, block leakages, and enhance service delivery.
The governor said synergy among the agencies is key to meeting the state’s revenue target for the year.
This was contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Ado Ekiti by the Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode.
Oyebanji made the call during a mid-year review meeting with heads of revenue-generating agencies, where he assessed their performance and compliance with existing revenue policies.
He stressed the need for all ministries, departments and agencies to align with the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service, EKIRS.
The governor also directed all agencies to abandon manual revenue collection and adopt full automation, saying manual processes encourage fraud and leakages.
“Manual collection of revenues is not only outdated but prone to leakages and fraud,” he stated.
To ensure compliance, Oyebanji said his administration would conduct a comprehensive review of all revenue-generating agencies in September.
He reaffirmed his commitment to building a transparent and efficient revenue system, and charged the agency heads “to key into government’s vision by working together, complying fully with established procedures and ensuring that every kobo due to the state is properly accounted for.”
The agency heads also presented reports on their challenges, prospects, targets and strategies to improve revenue generation.
Present at the meeting were the Commissioner for Finance, Akin Oyebode; Commissioner for Transportation, Kehinde Ajobiewe; Chief of Staff, Niyi Adebayo; EKIRS Chairman, Olaniran Olatona; Accountant-General, Ariyike Olayinka; and heads of other revenue agencies.
