President Bola Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 3,252 verified Parent-Teacher Association teachers into the Federal Civil Service. The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, announced this on Thursday in a statement by his media aide, Ikharo Attah.According to Alausa, priority will be given to PTA teachers who have served in Federal Unity Colleges and Federal Technical Colleges for nearly 25 years.“This is a president who cares deeply for Nigeria.
The approval gives these teachers the opportunity to become part of mainstream public service,” the minister said.He said the recruitment followed a verification exercise by an inter-ministerial committee that screened PTA teachers across Unity Colleges.
A total of 3,252 teachers were verified across the cadres of Education Officers, Assistant Education Officers and Technical Instructors.Alausa described the move as a major intervention under the Renewed Hope Agenda to address teacher shortages and improve learning outcomes. He added that regularising experienced PTA teachers will preserve institutional knowledge, strengthen instruction, and reduce the financial burden on parents who have funded them for years.
The ministry said it will work with relevant agencies to complete statutory processes before final appointment letters are issued. For years, Unity Colleges have relied on PTA teachers to fill staffing gaps, with many serving 10 to 25 years without permanent employment.
