FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, says he does not regret blocking Chief Bode George from emerging as PDP National Chairman, describing him as a failed politician who has not delivered any electoral victory for the party in Lagos since 1999.In a statement on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications, Lere Olayinka, Wike said George’s frustration has worsened with the rise of Deji Doherty in Lagos PDP politics.
“My anger is that we didn’t allow him to be PDP National Chairman, and I have no regret about it,” Wike stated. He explained that George acted as though the position was his birthright, but the party insisted it was the South-South’s turn.
“Since then, he has not stopped being angry,” Wike added. The minister recalled visiting George’s Maitama, Abuja home as governor to pacify him after the convention, but said he was almost turned back by George’s wife until former Ondo Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, intervened.Wike said despite George’s influence, he has failed to win elections for PDP in Lagos.
“We have tolerated him even though we know he adds no value. But if he wants to keep dancing naked in the political market, we will let him.”The FCT Minister argued that party leadership should be based on electoral performance, not titles.
“On that basis, Bode George is a complete disaster,” he said.Backing his claim with figures, Wike said George has never won his polling unit, Unit 001, Ward E2, Evans Street, Lagos Island, for PDP. In 2019, APC got 84 votes there against PDP’s 40. In 2023, after George moved his voter’s card to Eti-Osa, PDP got just 4 votes at his former unit.Wike concluded that since George “has nothing to do,” he will keep giving his associates reasons to go from one TV station to another.
