The Senate Committee on Public Accounts has issued a fresh 72-hour deadline to the NNPCL, CBN, NDDC, NUPRC and other government agencies to appear over pending audit queries. The directive was given on Monday after representatives of the invited agencies failed to show up and did not offer any reason for their absenceCommittee Chairman, Senator Ibrahim Dankwambo, said the summons was part of the panel’s constitutional oversight duties.
“We wanted to reduce our workload to make oversight easier. Letters and invitations were sent out, but our guests have not turned up,” Dankwambo said.Senator Babangida Hussaini condemned the absence, calling it disrespectful to the National Assembly. “It is most disrespectful for any agency to ignore audit queries. This committee has powers and must take drastic action.
The Senate is being taken for granted and that must stop,” he said.Senator Patrick Ndubueze also pushed for sanctions, arguing the agencies should not get another chance. “They were invited and gave no explanation.
They don’t deserve a second chance. Proper consequences must be applied,” he stated. After deliberations, the committee resolved to give a “final” 72-hour ultimatum, directing the affected agencies to appear on August 6.Lawmakers warned that failure to comply could lead to further legislative action.
