Three women lost their lives and 10 others sustained injuries on Friday after a vehicle plunged off the Long Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The accident occurred at about 5:24pm near Mikano, on the Long Bridge inward Lagos.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, confirmed the incident in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi.
He said three vehicles were involved — a Toyota bus, a Toyota Corolla, and a Mazda bus. A total of 16 persons were involved: 12 males and 4 females.
Ten people, including nine males and one female, were injured, while three adult females died.
According to eyewitnesses, excessive speeding and loss of control caused the vehicle to somersault before landing in a ditch.
Rescue operations were carried out by TRACE, FRSC, the Police, and the Ogun State Ambulance and Emergency Service.
Six injured victims were taken to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre. Another injured person and one presumed dead were conveyed by FRSC ambulance.
Two of the deceased were deposited at the General Hospital, Ifo morgue, while the third was taken to Idera Hospital morgue in Sagamu. Other injured victims received treatment at A.Z. Hospital.
