The Osun State Police Command has invited Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East, for questioning over a viral video in which he was allegedly heard urging supporters to “kill” members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The development followed widespread outrage on social media over the senator’s purported comments to APC supporters in Ilesa.
Speaking on Channels Television’s _The Morning Brief_ on Wednesday, Osun Police PPRO, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the video was a “serious concern” and prompted the invitation.
_“He is a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We are not talking about immunity here. Even people below his status, we normally write invitation letters to them. If they honour it, fine. If they don’t, then we go after them,”_ Ojelabi said.
_“He has been invited, and when he comes, whatever he says will be made available to the public,”_ he added.
Ojelabi noted that police had earlier warned against inciting statements.
_“Seeing that video calls for serious concern, and that is what led to his invitation. Let him come and explain what he meant by ‘kill them’ in that video. We all heard what he said, and we have a large Yoruba-speaking community that understood it very well,”_ he said.
Channels Television cited a letter dated August 11, 2026, signed by CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, Commissioner of Police, Elections, Osun State. The letter directed Fadahunsi to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Osogbo on Wednesday, August 12, at 11:00am to _“clarify the circumstances”_ surrounding the alleged statements made during an APC campaign in Ilesa.
*Fadahunsi Denies, Says Video Was Distorted*
In a statement on Tuesday, the senator denied the claim, describing it as a _“deliberate misrepresentation.”_
He said his remarks were in response to _“the continued killing of APC members”_ by alleged Accord Party thugs in Ilesa, and that his party would _“defend its people”_ if the violence continued.
_“The video was deliberately edited to distort what I actually said. What I said was that if the alleged killing of our party members by Accord Party thugs does not stop, our party will retaliate,”_ Fadahunsi stated.
_“I stated unequivocally that if our party members are killed again, we will not simply fold our arms and watch. We will defend our people, even if such an incident occurs on election day,”_ he added.
The senator accused Davido and Pelumi Olajengbesi of taking _“less than two minutes from a speech that lasted about 24 minutes”_ to circulate for _“cheap political objectives.”_
*Adeleke Demands Arrest*
Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Adeleke has asked the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to arrest and investigate Fadahunsi, describing the comment as _“incitement to genocide”_ against Accord Party members.
_“This is now beyond politics. This is a national security threat that requires the attention of Mr President through the Office of the NSA,”_ Adeleke said during a press conference on Tuesday.
_“I have raised this issue with the IGP and demanded the immediate investigation and arrest of Senator Fadahunsi. The IGP has confirmed the video and assured me of immediate action,”_ he added.
Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform, also called on police and DSS to stop alleged _“illegal operations”_ by the IRT, which he said had been arresting Accord leaders across LGAs.
